Attend ESL sessions and learn English

(tutoring sessions are One-on-one and in-person)

In conjunction with the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley (LVPV), the Dixon Homestead Library offers ESL tutoring sessions for Dumont residents who wish to learn or improve English as a Second Language.

Please note: All tutors are volunteers. Students should contact their assigned tutor when a session must be cancelled.

What is included in the ESL program?

  • Individual tutoring from beginner to advanced levels, customized to the individual student.

  • Weekly tutoring sessions at the Library.

  • All materials are provided to the students.

  • An ESL resource collection for students and tutors to borrow with their library card.

  • A beginner conversation class facilitated by a tutor for students that want to practice conversation skills.

  • Group classes from Westwood Library.

Interested in becoming a tutor?

Individuals who would like to become volunteer tutors should inquire about the Tutor Training Workshops that are offered by LVPV on a quarterly  basis through Westwood Public Library. Following the completion of this ten-hour training course, tutors are matched with a student and will be assigned a tutoring schedule based on their availability and will be given a space in the Library to meet.
